Challenge

NextDaySod needed an e-commerce platform built for a pricing problem most shopping carts aren’t designed to handle. Sod delivery costs vary by location, and different customer types, residential, commercial, and wholesale, pay different rates for the same product. Managing a pricing matrix that large manually creates errors and requires constant correction. Trying to configure that kind of flexibility on a generic platform leads to workarounds that break under volume. The LOVING companies needed a system that calculated the right price automatically for every customer based on who they were and where they were delivering, without any manual work from the team. Working with Chain Reaction Studios, we built it from scratch on Laravel.

Solution

The platform uses a tiered, geo-based pricing engine built in Laravel and Postgres that calculates the correct price for each customer automatically based on their account tier and delivery zip code. Customers see accurate pricing from the moment they start shopping without any manual lookup by the NextDaySod team. The checkout flow handles the pricing complexity behind the scenes so the buying experience stays straightforward. The admin suite covers order management, regional sales tracking, and reporting in one place. Nothing requires jumping between systems or manual reconciliation at the end of the day.

Results

Since going live in mid-2021, the platform has processed over $1,000,000 in total revenue. The pricing engine runs without errors, which means fewer order corrections, fewer customer issues, and less time spent on pricing mistakes that come from managing it manually. The team manages orders and pulls reports without leaving the admin. Regional sales data is available at a glance, which helps with planning and delivery logistics. The platform scaled with the business rather than creating a ceiling, which is what the project needed to prove.
